IPL 2016 Team Captains table

2016 was a great year for Sunrisers Hyderabad and David Warner. David Warner had an outstanding season in the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He led the team from the front with his explosive batting performances and inspired leadership, guiding SRH to their maiden IPL title.

Warner finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 848 runs in 17 matches at an average of 60.57 and a strike rate of 151.42. He smashed nine half-centuries and one century, and was consistent throughout the tournament.

IPL 2016 Team Captains 

Warner's leadership skills were also commendable as he was able to extract the best out of his team and lead from the front. He made some crucial tactical decisions that worked in SRH's favour and backed his players to perform under pressure.

He was able to shatter expectations with a 69- run knock from just 38 balls in the final of the IPL and was able to win the IPL under his captaincy. Virat Kohli despite his individual brilliance could not steer RCB to a final victory.

IPL 2017 Team Captains table

Steve Smith had a good season in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). He played a vital role in leading his team to the final of the tournament, where they lost to Mumbai Indians by just one run.

Smith finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with 472 runs in 15 matches at an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of 121.96. He scored three half-centuries and played some crucial innings for RPS in the middle order.

Apart from his batting, Smith's captaincy was also impressive. He made some astute tactical decisions and rotated his bowlers well to keep the opposition batsmen in check. It was not destined to be Steven Smith’s day, as his half century in the final was in vain. IPL 2018 Team Captains table

Despite having a brilliant season again Hyderabad could not capitalize on their league position under the captaincy of Kane Williamson. Under the able stewardship of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings would go on to win their 3rd IPL in the final. Williamson finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with 735 runs in 17 matches at an average of 52.50 and a strike rate of 142.44. He scored eight half-centuries and was consistent throughout the tournament. His performances with the bat were a key reason why SRH was able to make it to the final.

As a captain, Williamson was calm, composed, and made some astute tactical decisions. He was able to get the best out of his players and led from the front with his own performances. Williamson was praised for his captaincy, and his ability to read the game and make the right decisions under pressure. Kane Williamson would go on to play a captain’s knock of 47 runs but the brilliance of Shane Watson would outshine his efforts.

Dhoni scored 455 runs in 16 matches at an average of 75.83 and a strike rate of 150.66. He smashed three half-centuries and played some crucial innings in the middle order. Dhoni's ability to finish games and score quick runs in the death overs was crucial for CSK's success.

The 2019 will not be remembered as a final that was kind to the captains of the respective teams. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 15 runs and MS Dhoni was dismissed for 2 runs.

IPL 2022 Team Captains table

Hardik Pandya was exemplary as a captain in his debut season with Gujarat Titans. He scored 487 runs and picked up 12 wickets in the process and was probably one of the most valuable players of the tournament. In the final as well his 34 runs proved to be a valuable contribution while he also proved difficult for the batsmen with his bowling as he picked up 3 wickets and conceded just 17 runs.
